Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is widely debate that the spreading of online shopping will affect the physical shops in towns and cities and push them to close. I partly agree that people will mostly rely on online shopping rather than go to stores. Nevertheless, others will still prefer traditional shopping in stores.

To begin with, online shopping is much more convenient and form an easy process. People can browse hundreds of products through websites, compare materials and place an order with just a click without needing to go to stores. Moreover, comparing prices and offers is much more easier online. and realiable delivery made the whole process almost effortless. Therefore, people enjoy the variety of choices while they are saving their time from going to local stores. For instance, people can buy any item they want online without leave their homes that form a great time-saver process for a lot of people.

However, many people prefer to shop in stores because they are afraid from online fraud or faking materials or wrong sizes. Many individuals believe that they need to see the materials or get the right size before purchasing, in order to avoid fraud. and that process is harder through online shopping. for instance, people can go to the store and choose the right size and purchase the order in one visit to the store. while replacing an online order could take several days and more steps to get a refund or an exchange for your order which could be disfunctional for many people.

In conclusion, I firmly belive that online shopping will become more popular because of its convenient process and time saving. However, many people would still prefer going to physical stores and enjoy traditional shopping process. which will preserve towns and cities stores from closing.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your response addresses both sides of the question and maintains a clear, qualified position: online shopping will grow, but physical shops will remain. The convenience, wider choice and time-saving benefits are relevant reasons, and the contrast with concerns about fraud, sizing and returns gives the discussion useful support. The examples of buying from home and exchanging an online order help illustrate your points. To strengthen the response further, develop the claim that shops will not all close by explaining which kinds of purchases or shopping experiences are likely to keep customers visiting stores. Some claims, such as that people can buy “any item” online, are broad; more precise qualification would make the argument more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting online shopping, a contrasting paragraph about physical stores, and a conclusion that restates your position. “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “However” help signal the main stages, and the ideas generally progress logically. This clear organisation is a strength. Cohesion is not always smooth, however: several sentences begin with lowercase “and,” “for instance,” or “while,” which interrupts the flow, and the repeated use of “people” and “store” makes some links feel mechanical. The conclusion’s final sentence is also detached from the preceding one. Use a wider range of references and connect related points within complete, well-punctuated sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “convenient,” “compare prices,” “online fraud,” “refund,” and “exchange.” These choices show awareness of the subject, but the range and control are limited by repeated general words such as “people,” “process,” and “store,” as well as inaccurate word forms and collocations. For example, “realiable delivery” and “disfunctional” are misspelled, while “afraid from” and “faking materials” are not natural expressions in this context. Aim for more precise phrases such as “concerned about online fraud,” “counterfeit goods,” and “inconvenient.” Proofreading spelling and checking how words combine will make your meaning clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “while,” and “in order to,” and your main meaning is generally understandable. However, errors in sentence construction and agreement occur often enough to limit accuracy. For example, “online shopping … form an easy process” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “without leave their homes” needs a different verb form. Several sentence fragments follow full stops, such as “and reliable delivery…” and “which will preserve…,” while punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent. Practise building complete sentences and checking agreement, verb forms, and clause boundaries. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentence attempts easier to follow.
