Student answer (Band 6.0)

The growing popularity of online shopping will result in closing of all shops in towns and cities. I completely agree with this view, as some shoppers prefer variety and convenience of shopping online.

One of the main reasons for online shopping is that opportunity to compare prices and brands of the products. This is largely due to the fact that shopping websites has user friendly features which attracts a considerable number of customers to shop online. For instance, many e-commerce sites offers a wide range of products, where customers can decide the best one that suits their need. If someone wants to buy an electronic item at an affordable price, they may compare dozens of products online from home rather than visiting all shops. Consequently, the demand for shopping online will lead to closing of all shops in towns and cities.

Another significant reason is that online shopping offers convenience. This is because customers do not have time to visit the shop simply to purchase one item. For example, working professionals might choose to shop using an online application due to their busy schedules. Shopping online saves commuting time and expenses of parking the private vehicle. Although traditional shops offer physical experience of shopping, online shopping provides practicality. As a result, growth of online will continue to rise and will take over traditional shopping stores.

In conclusion, the growth of online shopping will replace all shops in towns and cities. I fully agree with this perspective because virtual shopping offers a wide range of products and convenience.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you fully agree that online shopping will replace physical shops. You give two relevant reasons—price and product comparison, and convenience—and support them with examples such as comparing electronic items from home and busy professionals using an app. This addresses the task, but some ideas are less fully developed than others. In particular, the claim that online shopping will lead to *all* shops closing is asserted rather than examined; the essay does not consider why some customers may continue to value in-person shopping or explain how online retailers would replace every type of shop. Developing that link and qualifying broad claims would make the argument more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. The examples generally follow the points they support, and linking expressions such as “For instance,” “Consequently,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. This is a coherent structure, with some progression from comparison to convenience. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical because several sentences rely on formulaic links such as “This is largely due to the fact that” and “As a result.” The connection between the examples and the sweeping prediction that all shops will close could also be made more explicit. Use a wider range of referencing and transitions, and build each paragraph’s reasoning step by step.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “e-commerce sites,” “wide range of products,” “commuting time,” and “traditional shops.” These choices make the subject clear, and the meaning remains understandable throughout. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “a considerable number of customers.” Some word choices and collocations are less natural or imprecise, however: “growth of online” is incomplete, “physical experience of shopping” is awkward, and “decide the best one” is not the most idiomatic way to describe selecting a product. Repeated use of “online shopping” and “shops” also limits flexibility. Aim for more precise expressions such as “online retail,” “brick-and-mortar stores,” and “compare products and prices.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “as,” “because,” and “although.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the examples are generally easy to follow. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, subject–verb agreement, and plural forms. For example, “that opportunity” needs an article, “shopping websites has” should use a plural verb, and “many e-commerce sites offers” has the same agreement problem. “Customers can decide the best one that suits their need” also contains a number-agreement issue. These errors rarely obstruct understanding, but they reduce accuracy. Check articles and ensure verbs and nouns agree in number, especially when the subject is plural.
