Student answer (Band 6.0)

With the evolution of modern society, there has been a noticeable shift in the shopping. A part of the population argues that online shopping will replace the traditional shops in local and urban areas. I completely not concur with this notion and believe that physical shops will also become prominent in future.

To commence with, a compelling reason for supporting this view is that physical shops offers better quality to the customers. It allows individuals to touch the products and choose their colour and size according to their interest. For instance, shopping malls or any traditional shop having the acess for fitting rooms to their customers where they can check their fittings according to their size and style. In addition, physical shops allows people to spend more time with their loved ones.Families on their day offs spend quality of time in shopping complexes .It builds not only stronger relationships among them, but also relax them from their work stress.

Another foundational argument in favour of traditional shops is that less concern about return policy. As people purchase their products carefully ,so that they donot have to return. To illustrate, groceries are most prominent aspect which requires physical presence.Equally important, physical shops having more variety in products as individuals can easily buy their products in different colours and materials.

Conversely, while traditional shops have significant merits, it must be admitted that online shopping is more convenient. It saves individual's time and money. Online shopping offers more deals which attracts the consumers to buy with lower prices. Hence, E-shopping has become more popular these days.

To conclude, although online shopping may provide certain positives, the advantages of physical shops outweigh them.Quality of products and minimum returns are beneficial aspects of traditional shops.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction—“I completely not concur”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address both sides by explaining benefits of physical shops and acknowledging online shopping’s convenience, lower prices and deals. The examples of fitting rooms, family outings and groceries are relevant to the question. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that physical shops offer “better quality” is supported mainly by the ability to inspect products, which does not necessarily establish their quality. The return-policy point is also unclear and could be developed with a specific explanation. Your response covers the task well overall, but fuller support and more precise reasoning would strengthen it.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs supporting physical shops, a paragraph acknowledging online shopping, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “To commence with,” “In addition,” “Conversely” and “To conclude” make the progression easy to follow. The main ideas are generally grouped appropriately, although the second supporting paragraph combines returns, groceries and product variety without clearly showing how each point connects to the central argument. Some transitions feel formulaic, and the relationship between sentences is occasionally unclear—for instance, “Another foundational argument… is that less concern about return policy.” More explicit links between claims and explanations, alongside clearer paragraph focus, would make the organisation more fluent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “traditional shops,” “fitting rooms,” “shopping complexes,” “return policy” and “convenient.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “foundational argument” and “significant merits.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “quality of time,” “relax them from their work stress,” “less concern about return policy” and “physical shops having more variety.” Spelling errors such as “acess” and “donot” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, but they make the expression less precise. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession beginning “although online shopping may provide certain positives” and a relative clause in “which requires physical presence.” Meaning is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, sentence construction, articles and punctuation occur across the response. For example, “physical shops offers” and “physical shops allows” use singular verbs with plural subjects; “I completely not concur” has an incorrect negative construction; and “Families on their day offs spend…” is not formed naturally. Several sentences also run together because spaces after full stops are missing. These are some recurring errors, while the overall message remains clear. Review subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries, then proofread punctuation.
