Student answer (Band 6.5)

With advances in technology, the trend of online shopping has become more popular. Although the expansion of online shopping is concern a concern realted to the future of physical stores, I disagree with the statement that shops in cities and down will eventually close down because physical stores plays an important role in society.

One key reason why people are chosing online shoppping is that it makes our lives convenient. While online shopping offers choices, one can purchase anything online just by looking at the description and reviews of item, physical shopping provides guarantee about the material as the buyer can touch and feel the quality of material before purchase. Despite offering competitive prices by online websites, more buyer would like to examine product physically. As a result, many people prefer to purchase product in person.

Not only does physical shopping gives more satisfaction but it also improves relations. While doing physical shopping one can escape from their busy routines and it is a good way to spend time with their loved ones. The shops in towns and cities serves the community by generating jobs, building trust between shop owner and customer, celebrating the festivals. For example, physical shopping offers more opportunities to interact with shop owners, other customers and people working in that area results in building more connections, gaining confidence and a platform to exchange ideas.

To conclude, although online shopping is becoming popular, it can not results in closing the physical stores completely. Physical stores have their own benefits.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you disagree that online shopping will cause all physical shops to close, and the conclusion restates this view. You address the question with relevant reasons, including the ability to inspect goods in person and the social and community roles of local shops. The example about interacting with shop owners and other customers helps support your second point. To make the argument more fully developed, explain more precisely why these benefits will continue to attract enough customers despite online shopping—for instance, by distinguishing which types of goods or shopping experiences are especially suited to physical stores. Some claims, such as that shopping in person builds confidence, would also benefit from a clearer explanation or a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall progression: it introduces your disagreement, presents two supporting reasons in separate paragraphs, and ends with a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “One key reason,” “Not only,” “For example,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the argument. The contrast between online convenience and the advantages of physical shopping is also relevant to the line of reasoning. To strengthen cohesion further, make the relationship between some ideas more explicit. For example, the sentence listing jobs, trust, and festivals moves quickly between different community benefits, while the following example focuses mainly on interaction. Group related points and explain how each supports your position. A few transitions feel formulaic, so use referencing and links between ideas more naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “competitive prices,” “physical stores,” “generating jobs,” and “building trust.” These choices communicate the main ideas, but the range and control are uneven, with repeated general terms such as “physical shopping,” “people,” and “benefits.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including “realted,” “chosing,” and “shoppping,” as well as the awkward phrase “purchase anything online just by looking at the description.” These errors do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim for more accurate collocations and a wider set of topic-specific expressions, such as “inspect products firsthand” or “local retailers,” and proofread spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including contrast clauses with “Although” and “While,” and the emphatic construction “Not only does physical shopping…”. However, errors occur often enough to make some sentences awkward or difficult to process. For example, “physical stores plays” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “Not only does physical shopping gives” incorrectly combines the auxiliary “does” with a finite verb. In “more buyer would like,” the plural form is needed, while “it can not results” has an incorrect verb form. Some sentence boundaries and clause connections also need attention, particularly in the long example sentence beginning “For example.” Review agreement, verb forms after auxiliaries, and sentence construction, then proofread each sentence.
