Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, people prefer more to shop online rather than going to local shops in town and cities. Therefore, the trend of online shopping is increasing day by day. However, I completely disagree with this trend. In this essay, I will discuss relevant reasons for it.

Firstly, some people do not prefer to do online shopping for items such as fresh vegetables, fruits, and clothes because it is better idea to go to the shop and buy these items, so they can see that the vegetables, and fruits are fresh or not. Also, people may feel more confident to go to local shops to buy clothes because they can feel the material and the size of the clothes. Secondly, Online websites charges extra for shipping the order to the customers. For instance, I ordered a shoe from NIKE website which was 125$,but I need to pay 15$ extra for shipping. At the end it costs me 150$ including tax. However, when I checked the price of the same shoe in NIKE store, it was only 100$. Therefore, I believe people may need to pay less if they go to local shops in towns and cities.

Moreover, some online wesbites have limited options available than it's actual store. That's why people find more varities for a particulat item in store rather than it's online website. Furthermore, in some cases online websites may leads to fraud becuase customers are paying money through websites which are not secure completely. In this case people may need to spend extra time for talking to customer service if their money has deducted but the order is not placed yet. Lastly, it is not easy for elder people to use online wesbites becuase they are complicate and these people do not know much about smartphones. Therefore, more convinient way for them to do shopping is to go to local shops in towns and cities.

To conclude, although the craze of online shopping is increasing day by day, going to local stores is much better option for some items. Therefore local shops can not completely replaced by online wesbites because of these reasons. ,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction, where you say you “completely disagree,” and it remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the prediction that shops will close by explaining why physical stores remain useful: customers can inspect fresh food and clothing, compare prices, access wider choices, and avoid some online risks. The shoe-price example gives relevant support, and the point about older shoppers adds another perspective. This is a well-supported response overall. To strengthen it further, connect each reason more explicitly to the claim that *all* shops might close, and develop the fraud and older-customer points with a specific example or explanation of how they affect the future of physical shops. Avoid broad claims such as online stores generally having fewer options unless you qualify them.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “Moreover,” and “Lastly” help readers follow the argument, and the price example is placed alongside the point it supports. The progression is generally logical, but the essay relies heavily on these explicit signposts, so connections can feel mechanical. Some ideas within the second body paragraph—product variety, fraud, and older users—are introduced in quick succession without much transition or development. The conclusion also repeats the central point rather than drawing the reasons together. Use clearer links between related ideas and vary how you signal progression to make cohesion more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your argument, including “shipping,” “customer service,” “secure,” and “local stores.” However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “people,” “items,” “shops,” and “online websites,” and several choices or forms are inaccurate. For example, “varities” and “wesbites” are misspelled, while “craze” is less suitable for a formal discussion than a neutral term such as “popularity.” Phrases such as “limited options available than its actual store” and “more convenient way” also need more natural collocations. Aim to use precise retail vocabulary and check spelling and word forms; this will make your meaning more fluent and appropriately formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “so,” and “although,” and the main argument is usually understandable. However, errors occur across sentence patterns and often make the writing less controlled. Examples include “Online websites charges,” where the subject and verb do not agree, “websites may leads,” and “it is better idea,” which needs an article. There are also problems with possessives and sentence boundaries, as in “it's actual store” and “smartphones.Therefore.” Some long sentences join several ideas with “because” or “so,” making their structure difficult to manage. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, possessives, and punctuation, while keeping complex sentences clear and complete.
