Student answer (Band 6.0)

From the last 3 decades, a significant rise have been observed in online shopping. This continuous increase may one day lead to closing of all shops in towns and cities. I completely disagree with the statement as online stores donot show the quality and fabric of a material. Additionally, purchasing metals online is not trust-worthy.

Firstly, Small purchases such as Dialy wear Clothing, office wear, Night wear can be purchased from Amazon, myntra, Azio, Flipkart as an e-commerce website shows the image and reviews of the particular clothing. People also donot need to spend more money on these regular wear items and it is very easy to return if they feel they are not appropriate. Whereas, large purchases such as sarees and Lehangas in an e-commerce website may sometimes lead to discomfort if they feel they are not suitable and returning these costly items cause inconvenience.Additionally, people check the quality and fabric of the material physically before purchasing a saree but unfortunately, app shows only the image.

Secondly, purchasing jewellery in gold, diamond, silver and platinum is not trust worthy to purchase online. When people visit jewellery store they can communicate with the owner about how much pure gold is used, copper is used in an ornament before purchasing as the customer spends a lot of amount on gold and the gold rate fluctutaes on a day-to-day basis. Additionally, customers can customize the ornament according to their idea and can communicate effectively with the owner and can physically feel it.

Therefore, physical shops in towns and cities will not close in future as items such as jewellery, sarees and Lehangas often require in-person shopping. This can help customers physically feel the item and enhance trust before spending more money on purchasing them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely disagree that online shopping will close all physical shops. You support this with relevant examples about clothing and jewellery, and the conclusion returns to the same view. This addresses the task and gives the reader a clear rationale. However, the discussion is not equally developed: the jewellery example explains trust and customisation, while the clothing paragraph shifts between everyday items and expensive garments without fully showing how these examples establish that shops will remain open. The response also focuses on particular products rather than considering other reasons people may continue to use town-centre shops. To strengthen the argument, explain how these examples represent broader customer needs and develop each main reason more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around different product types, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “Additionally,” and “Therefore” make the progression easy to follow. The main ideas are generally grouped appropriately, and the conclusion reflects the argument already presented. At times, however, the linking feels mechanical, with “Additionally” repeated, and some sentences contain several related points without a clear hierarchy. For example, the first body paragraph moves from everyday clothing to returns, then to sarees and fabric quality. Use more varied transitions and make the relationship between each example and the paragraph’s main claim explicit. This would make the progression more flexible and cohesive.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “e-commerce website,” “customize,” “quality and fabric,” and “fluctuates,” which helps communicate your examples. Some less common terms are attempted, but inaccurate word choice, spelling, and collocation reduce precision: “trust-worthy” is better expressed as “reliable,” “spends a lot of amount” is unnatural, and “regular wear items” is unclear. There are also spelling errors such as “Lehangas,” “fluctutaes,” and “Dialy,” alongside inconsistent capitalisation of common nouns. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they make the writing less natural. Check spelling and choose standard collocations, especially when describing purchases, product quality, and customer confidence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “as,” “if,” and “before,” and the overall meaning is usually clear. However, some errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction remain. For example, “a significant rise have been observed” should use a singular verb, while “may one day lead to closing” needs a more complete noun phrase. In “the customer spends a lot of amount,” the article and noun construction are faulty; “returning these costly items cause inconvenience” also has a subject–verb agreement problem. Punctuation and spacing are inconsistent, particularly around sentence boundaries. Review agreement and article use, and proofread each sentence for a complete, correctly punctuated structure.
