Student answer (Band 6.5)

The trend of online shopping is booming day by day. Some people believe that all shopping centres in towns will be closed because online shopping has established everywhere. Although digital shopping is a convenient method of shopping, people still believe in traditional shopping since it works for them as a therapy. Thus, I am strongly disagree with this view point.

The primary reason why individuals think that shopping centres will be shut down is that online shopping has become popular because it is convenient. Unlike traditional shopping, people do not need to travel and visit in the stores to buy necessary products, which significantly affects stores s' finances. For example, in malls if customers do not visit regularly to make purchases but operators are continually paying rents, electricity, royalty etc. That shows they are losing money instead of earning. Finally, this situation will lead them to close the store.

However, there are several benefits of in-person shopping such as people still like to visit stores to check the quality of the products. For example, while shopping for clothes online it is extremely challenging to feel the texture of the fabric. However, traditional shopping not only allows people to check the quality of clothes but also allows them to try on a piece of cloth. Eventually, they feel satisfied. Secondly, people think that shopping can be a reason for going out for some people. This is because they spend quality time with their friends by which they can rejuvenate themselves. As a result, traditional shopping can be considered as a therapy for them. Thus, due to several advantages of in-personal shopping it seems that shopping shops will remain open in the future

In conclusion, according to the aforementioned arguments, undoubtedly online shopping is convenient for people. However, I strongly agree that traditional shopping has more benefits because quality of clothes can be checked and it is also helpful for people's cognitive health. That is why not all shops in towns and cities will close.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you reject the prediction that all shops will close, and the conclusion restates this view. You address both sides by explaining online shopping’s convenience and the continuing appeal of physical stores. The examples about checking fabric and trying on clothes are relevant and help support your argument. This meets the task well, while the explanation of why online shopping threatens shops is less fully connected to the claim that *all* shops will close; it mainly describes costs and declining visits. The point about shopping as a way to spend time with friends is also asserted more than developed. To strengthen the response further, explain why these benefits will sustain different kinds of shops and support the broader claim with more specific reasoning or examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on the threat from online shopping, a paragraph on the benefits of in-person shopping, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “However,” “For example,” and “As a result” help readers follow the argument. The progression is generally logical, though some connections feel mechanical or unclear. For instance, “Finally, this situation will lead them to close the store” moves from financial pressure to closure without explaining why this applies to all shops. The conclusion also says “I strongly agree” after the introduction says “I am strongly disagree,” which makes the position harder to track. Use consistent wording for your stance and make links between each reason and the central claim more explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “convenient,” “texture,” “rejuvenate,” and “cognitive health.” These choices help communicate ideas about shopping and wellbeing, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural word choices and collocations, such as “shopping has established everywhere,” “stores s' finances,” “in-personal shopping,” and “shopping shops.” “Royalty” is also unclear in the list of store expenses. These slips limit precision, even though they do not prevent understanding. Aim for more natural topic-specific phrasing and check whether each word fits its context; for example, distinguish between “physical shops,” “shopping centres,” and “online retailers” rather than using them interchangeably.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “Although,” “because,” and “while.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the examples are generally easy to follow. Some grammatical errors remain, however. “I am strongly disagree” should be “I strongly disagree,” and “people still like to visit stores to check the quality” is followed by a sentence with an unclear shift in reference. There are also issues with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, as in “spend quality time with their friends by which they can rejuvenate themselves” and the missing space after “people.” To improve, proofread verb forms and punctuation, and make sure pronouns and connecting clauses clearly refer to the intended idea.
