Student answer (Band 6.0)

The trend of online shopping is increasing in this technology revolving world. The online shopping is becoming popular among young people. Some people think that this trend will lead to closing of physical shops in cities and towns. I disagree with this school of thought. I believe physical shops will hold their place in society.

Before online shopping was popular, people used to visit shops in-person to buy things. There are many ways physical shops are superior to online shops. The biggest benefit is that, there are no chances of getting scammed. You will pay for the product that you are buying, with no hidden charges. You can also check the quality of the item before buying. For example, if you visit the market to buy clothes. You can examine the clothes for its color, quality and fabric. If you happen to like it, you can purchase it.

Another key benefit of the local shops is that you can bypass the delivery waiting time. Purchasing an item form a shop will give you your desired product instantly. For example, if you need an a tool to repair something urgently. Its more convenient to visit the tool shop and buy the product physically rather than waiting for a whole week to get it delivered to your address.

In conclusion, online shipping will never replace the city stores because of their benifits. The delays in delivery, low quality products and risk of scams are minimal in these shops. I believe they will hold there place and even become more valuable in future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you disagree that online shopping will cause town and city shops to close, and the conclusion maintains this view. You give relevant reasons, especially the ability to inspect goods and obtain urgent purchases immediately, with examples involving clothes and a repair tool. This addresses the task and provides support, but the discussion is not equally developed throughout. The claim that physical shops involve “no chances of getting scammed” and “no hidden charges” is too absolute and would benefit from explanation or qualification. To strengthen the response further, explain why these advantages will ensure shops remain open despite online shopping’s growth, and develop the points with more precise examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate advantages, and a conclusion that restates your position. The examples generally follow the points they illustrate, so the reader can follow the argument. Linking phrases such as “Another key benefit” and “In conclusion” help signal progression, although the connections can feel somewhat formulaic. The opening sentence about the growth of online shopping is not developed before the response moves to physical shops, and “Before online shopping was popular” does not clearly connect the past to the argument that follows. Use more precise transitions and make references such as “these shops” unmistakably refer to physical shops to improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main argument, including relevant terms such as “delivery waiting time,” “quality,” and “hidden charges.” However, the range is somewhat repetitive, with frequent use of “shops,” “product,” and “buy,” and several word-choice or collocation errors reduce naturalness. For example, “technology revolving world” is not an idiomatic phrase, “online shipping” is used where you mean online shopping, and “form a shop” appears to be a spelling error for “from a shop.” There are also spelling errors such as “benifits.” Aim for more precise, natural expressions and check spelling carefully; this would make the argument clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple sentences and some longer structures, including conditional forms such as “If you happen to like it, you can purchase it.” Most of the meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors persist. For example, “The online shopping is becoming popular” has an unnecessary article, while “examine the clothes for its color” has a pronoun-agreement problem. In “if you need an a tool,” the article is duplicated, and “Its more convenient” needs the contraction “It’s.” There are also punctuation issues, such as the comma after “The biggest benefit is that.” Review articles, agreement, contractions, and comma placement, while continuing to practise varied sentence structures.
