Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. yesterday I have read an article in the magazine and found some information false about my town. as the road closure is starting from next week because of the railway line works in progress and the closure starts from 52 street to 64 street. I found the street address wrong in the magazine due to which people in our community making complaints about taking wrong routes to their work and home. Moreover, now whole traffic is following that route only and making congestion on the road. So, could you provide the correct information to the public as this is the second week we are all dealing with the same problem and people who are living in other street parked their vehicles on the road side which increases the risk of getting injured.
Further, to solve this issue could you make public announcements in areas like shopping malls or stations so that people should take the right path. additionally, writing a letter to the town officer would be beneficial regarding this problem which solves this problem effectively.
Best regards,
Jatin

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the task. You successfully identified the incorrect information regarding the road closure, explained the negative impact on the community, and suggested remedial actions. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why it is important for the magazine to be accurate is slightly muddled by the focus on the specific traffic incident rather than the broader principle of journalistic integrity. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with clear, logical reasoning that directly answers the prompt's requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Further', and 'additionally' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'due to which people in our community making complaints'. The transition between the problem description and the suggested solutions could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'road closure', 'congestion', and 'public announcements'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'people who are living in other street parked their vehicles'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and a wider variety of vocabulary related to formal letter writing and community issues. Avoid repetitive phrasing and focus on using words that convey your meaning with greater precision and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'yesterday I have read' should be 'yesterday I read', and 'people in our community making complaints' lacks a main verb. Additionally, there are issues with punctuation and capitalization, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage, and consistent sentence punctuation to improve your accuracy.
