Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to the editor regarding the article in an international travel magazine which I read during my journey. It includes the wrong information about my town.
In the article, there is wrong information about name and address of the fort. It also contains some wrong dates.
I feel proud that you mentioned my town in the international magazine, but it is very essential to give right information for the magazine reputation and other reasons. If any visitors who will read this article and think to visit the place, they will reach at wrong destination because of incorrect location. Additionally, the local people who do not know about the history of their town they will gain false information.
I think you can create a new article with correct details to solve the problem. I enclosed all the information that needs to be changed in this letter.
I hope it will help and do not hesitate to contact me if you need any assistance.
Yours faithfully,
Mittu

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: correcting the information, explaining the importance of accuracy, and suggesting a solution. Your tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an editor. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, when you mention that the fort information is wrong, you do not specify what the correct details are, which would have made the letter more effective. Additionally, the explanation regarding the importance of accuracy could be expanded with more specific consequences. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully developed rather than just stated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Additionally' and 'In the article' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more sophisticated. Some transitions feel slightly abrupt, such as the jump from the importance of accuracy to the suggestion for a new article. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed point would improve the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, and your meaning is consistently clear. You use some appropriate phrases like 'international travel magazine' and 'do not hesitate to contact me.' However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive and lacks precision. For example, you use the word 'wrong' multiple times (e.g., 'wrong information,' 'wrong destination'). To improve, try to use more varied synonyms such as 'inaccurate,' 'erroneous,' or 'misleading.' Incorporating more topic-specific collocations would also help demonstrate a wider lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'If any visitors who will read this article and think to visit the place, they will reach at wrong destination' (should be 'If visitors read this article and decide to visit, they will arrive at the wrong destination'). There are also minor issues with articles and prepositions. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures will help you achieve a higher band score.
