Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to bring into your attention that I have read the article published by your magazine which publish incorrect information about our town.
I would like to mention that Manali do not have historical buildings, and lakes for water activities. However, it has many lakes where people can enjoy water activities. Besides, there are many historical, and religious buildings such as churches, and places of well-known rulers that represent the city's rich heritage. This city is a famous tourist attraction, and many national and international tourist visit here every day. Therefore, it is essential to publish correct information about its tourist places otherwise this will impact the number of visitors traveling to Manali and economy of city. I request you to correct the information in article according to aforementioned detail.
I look forward to hearing from you soon
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Rajdeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: correcting the information, explaining the importance of accuracy, and suggesting a resolution. Your tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an editor. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the economic impact, expanding slightly on how the magazine could rectify the situation (e.g., publishing a correction or a follow-up article) would have provided a more comprehensive response. The letter is clear and the purpose is immediately evident to the reader, fulfilling the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the reason for writing to the specific corrections and finally the requested action. You use some cohesive devices like 'However', 'Besides', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. However, the paragraphing is quite sparse; the entire body of the letter is contained within one paragraph, which makes the text feel slightly dense. Dividing the letter into distinct paragraphs for the correction, the explanation, and the suggestion would significantly improve the flow and readability, aligning it more closely with the expectations for a formal letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms such as 'historical heritage', 'tourist attraction', and 'aforementioned'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'bring into your attention' (should be 'bring to your attention') and 'publish incorrect information' (should be 'published' to match the past tense context). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the variety and precision required for a higher band score. Attempting to use more sophisticated synonyms for common words would enhance your lexical profile.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'Manali do not have' should be 'Manali does not have' (subject-verb agreement), and 'many national and international tourist visit' should be 'tourists visit' (pluralization). Additionally, there are some punctuation errors, such as unnecessary commas in 'historical, and religious buildings'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and plural forms will help improve your accuracy.
