Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my concern regarding wrong information about my hometown that you contained in your magazine. Information about social policies, including affordable housing, and public health for the local people is incorrect. Our government provides excellent facilities for well-being, such as they provide a subsidy to purchase a new home, they buid new hospitals so the public can get an advantage.

I believe this piece of information is very important to be corrected, as it impacts local people's thinking and it could affect the town's wealth and reputation due to the wrong image of the town.

I would suggest removing this information from your article as soon as possible by giving a clear statement of the correct information so individuals would not judge our town based on wrong information, although you can mention that this is your printing mistake.

I hope you will understand my point of view on this matter and will take necessary action to handle this situation.

Your sincerely,

Nishu Agrawal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: correcting the information, explaining the importance of accuracy, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an editor. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, when you mention that the information is incorrect, you could have provided more specific details about what the article claimed versus the reality of your town. Expanding on these points would help to more fully develop your response and reach a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'as,' 'although,' and 'however,' though the flow between sentences could be smoother. At times, the connection between ideas feels slightly mechanical. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this piece of information') is always precise will improve the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'subsidies,' 'reputation,' and 'social policies.' However, there are some awkward phrasings, such as 'wrong information... that you contained in your magazine' and 'get an advantage.' To improve, try to use more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. Expanding your range of vocabulary to include more sophisticated synonyms for common words will help you move into the higher band range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'they buid' (spelling) and 'as individuals would not judge... although you can mention' (which creates a slightly confusing logical structure). Some sentences are a bit clunky, such as 'I am writing to express my concern regarding wrong information... that you contained.' Focusing on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately will help you achieve a higher score.
