Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to express my concern regarding my hometown. After reading an article, I found irrelevant information regarding my town in an international travel magazine.

In article, background of town was described in wrong way. Dwellers used to attact on innocent people, which is the totally wrong rumer about our ancestors. So, residents are not cooperative now. All the amenties were written in an article; such as swimming pool, gym, park, playground that are actually not avialable in our region. Furthermore, I read that every year sports events are held to encourage the young people towards games, but there is nothing like that in my village. It is disappointing why wrong inforamtion is publised in magazine.

Correct information must be collected to write the article again, otherwise our community members will take actions regarding editor. It is much important to provide relevant insight about history of town and facilities.

I hope to hear from you soon

Your thankfully,

Sukhman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: correcting the information, explaining the importance of accuracy, and suggesting a resolution. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion that the magazine should 'collect correct information' is quite brief, and the threat of 'taking actions' is slightly informal and vague for a formal letter to an editor. While the purpose of the letter is clear, the tone is inconsistent, shifting between formal and slightly aggressive. To reach a higher band, the ideas should be expanded with more professional language and a clearer, more constructive tone.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition 'Furthermore' is used correctly, but other links between sentences are weak. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'All the amenties were written in an article', where the connection to the previous sentence could be smoother. Paragraphing is present, but the internal flow within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several spelling errors (e.g., 'attact', 'rumer', 'amenties', 'avialable', 'inforamtion', 'publised') that distract the reader. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on basic descriptors. While the student attempts to use topic-specific words like 'amenities' and 'ancestors', the frequent spelling mistakes and occasional word choice errors (e.g., 'take actions regarding editor') limit the precision of the communication. To improve, the student should focus on accurate spelling and expanding their range of formal, professional vocabulary suitable for a letter to an editor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include missing articles (e.g., 'In article', 'background of town'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'used to attact on'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'It is disappointing why wrong inforamtion is publised'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. The student needs to focus on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with articles and prepositions, and ensure that sentence structures are grammatically sound to improve clarity.
