Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to provide you an information about the inaccurate details of my town that has been recently advertised in an international travel magazine.

The article is really interesting; however, I disagree with one of your statement about the town's structures that all the buildings in the city looks identical however, I believe that each sites have a unique architecture from the ancient styles. It represents the European and Italian walls of earlier times, which offers people with a deeper understanding about different cultures.

It is crucial for the viewers to provide with an accurate information to protect its credibility, ensure reader trust, and prevent harm to local businesses and communities. Additionally, magazines are the one of the main source of information for both the residents and government.

I would recommend you to print the correct data in the next issue that will help people to learn more about our town's history, and also include some website links for their future reference.

Thank you for your consideration to this matter. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Rachel Zane

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You identified the incorrect information regarding the town's architecture, explained the importance of accuracy for the magazine's credibility, and provided a clear suggestion for rectification. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an editor. To reach a higher band, ensure that your explanation of why accuracy is important is more deeply developed; while your points about trust and local businesses are relevant, expanding on the specific impact of the misinformation would strengthen the response further.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which aids readability. You use some cohesive devices such as 'however', 'additionally', and 'therefore' (implied). However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'the one of the main source', which disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'inaccurate details', 'credibility', and 'architecture'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'provide you an information' (should be 'provide you with information') and 'each sites have' (subject-verb agreement). You also use 'the one of the main source', which is grammatically and lexically imprecise. To improve, focus on learning the correct prepositions and articles that accompany specific nouns.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that slightly impede the flow. Examples include 'all the buildings in the city looks identical' (subject-verb agreement), 'one of your statement' (should be plural 'statements'), and 'provide with an accurate information' (unnecessary 'with'). While these errors do not prevent communication, they are frequent enough to keep the score in the 6.0 range. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
