Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to provide information about the inaccurate details of my town that have been recently advertised in an international travel magazine.
The article is really interesting; however, I disagree with one of your statements about the town's structures that all the buildings in the city look identical. However, I believe that each sites have a unique architecture from the ancient styles. It represents the European and Italian walls of earlier times, which offer people with a deeper understanding of different cultures.
It is crucial for the viewers to provide an accurate information to protect its credibility, ensure reader trust, and prevent harm to local businesses and communities. Additionally, magazines are the one of the main source of information for the residents to know about the facts and importance of the subject.
I would recommend you to print the correct data in the next issue that will help people to learn more about our town's history, and also include some website links for their future reference.
Thank you for your consideration to this matter. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Rachel Zane

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points of the task. You clearly identified the incorrect information regarding the town's architecture, explained the importance of accuracy for reader trust and local business, and provided a constructive suggestion for the magazine to print a correction. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an editor. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are slightly more developed; for instance, you could have elaborated on how the specific historical architecture of your town differs from the 'identical' structures mentioned in the article to make your correction more persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'however', 'additionally', and 'for instance' to link ideas. However, there is some minor repetition in sentence structure, and the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'inaccurate details', 'credibility', and 'unique architecture' are well-chosen. There are a few minor errors in word choice, such as 'the one of the main source' (should be 'one of the main sources') and 'consideration to this matter' (usually 'consideration of this matter'). While you attempt some less common vocabulary, there is room to incorporate more sophisticated collocations to elevate the tone further. The vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'each sites have' (should be 'each site has') and 'provide an accurate information' (information is uncountable, so 'an' is incorrect). Additionally, 'offer people with a deeper understanding' is slightly awkward; 'offer people a deeper understanding' would be more natural. Despite these errors, your control of grammar is generally good, and the mistakes do not cause difficulty for the reader.
