Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir

I am writing this letter to bring your attention to some incorrect information related to my town that you have published in your paper regarding hospitality and other things such as food and residential support.

You have mentioned that we do not have much tourist attractions in our town. I would like to send the lists of good parks and hiking with spectacular view. There are excellent hotels and restaurants where you can enjoy local food.

I would appreciate if you print correct information in the article because a lot of people follow the article and do not get aware about the beauty of our town. Also, it will affect the tourism in our place.

Besides this, I would like to suggest you either rewrite the letter or contain the right information in your article. You can also visit again to our town.

I am looking forward to hear from you.

Yours faithfully

Supriya

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You corrected the information regarding tourist attractions, explained the importance of accuracy for the town's reputation, and suggested that the magazine rewrite the article or revisit the town. However, the development of these points is somewhat brief. For instance, when you mention 'the lists of good parks', you do not actually provide the information or describe the attractions in detail. To achieve a higher band, try to expand your ideas with more specific examples or descriptive language to fully satisfy the reader's expectations for a formal letter.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical structure, with a clear opening and closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Also', 'Besides this', and 'I would like to'. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and the paragraphing is somewhat sparse. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea. For example, the transition between your correction of the facts and the explanation of why accuracy matters could be smoother with more sophisticated signposting.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some appropriate phrases like 'bring your attention to' and 'spectacular view'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'do not get aware about' (should be 'are not aware of') and 'contain the right information' (should be 'include' or 'correct'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Your vocabulary is sufficient for the task but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I would like to send the lists of good parks and hiking with spectacular view' (should be 'hiking trails with spectacular views') and 'I am looking forward to hear from you' (should be 'looking forward to hearing'). These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of gerunds after 'look forward to'.
