IELTS Writing Task 1 question

You have just read an article in an international travel magazine which contained some information about your town that is incorrect.

Write a letter to the editor of the magazine. In your letter

• correct the information in the article
• explain why it is important for the magazine to give correct information
• suggest what the magazine should do about this situation

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to make some corrections on an article on "Tourist Attraction Sites" in your magazine released on July 14th, 2026 which stated that 'the Great Bouncing River' was located in Benin city.

I wish to sternly state that The Great Bouncing River is indeed located in Uromi town which is very different from Benin city. You can confirm this by getting a copy of the map of Uromi in which the river is a clear landmark. This correction is of great necessity because it will give your readers and potential tourists the exact location of the river and how to get there, and it will also boost their confidence in your publishing house that you actually verify information that are for public consumption and take responsibility for misinformation.

I'd like to suggest a way to remedy the situation. You can first recall the copies of the article for July 14th still in the market, afterwards, publish the correct location of the river in subsequent publications for about 1 week duration. You could also involve the news media to give it as an announcement. I'd be waiting to hear from you.
