Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear sir or Madam,
subject: Request for correction of errors in your artical
I am writing this letter to bring an important information about the article published on your magazine. The information provided in the publishing states the fact that my town named Beas do not have the essential facilities required for survival. These facilities include hospital, and a playground.
I is essential for any visitor to understand that these two facilities are currently existing at my hometown because it can change any visitor's mind for coming to this place which could have serous impact on the local businesses in my town.
I would advice the magazine company to kindly address this serious issue and please republish this paper again and mention that there is a charitable hospital in my town on the south side of the town and right beside it there is a public playground where anybody can come and have a great time.

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: you corrected the information regarding the town's facilities, explained the importance of accuracy, and suggested a solution. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why accuracy is important is quite brief. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detail or examples. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening and closing could be more conventional. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the depth of the response is basic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some basic cohesive devices, such as 'These facilities include' and 'I would advice'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the use of linking words could be more varied to improve the logical progression. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is abrupt. Improving the use of cohesive devices like 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in light of this' would help create a smoother, more professional tone.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'essential facilities', 'charitable hospital', and 'local businesses'. However, there are some errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'artical' (article), 'publishing' (publication), and 'serous' (serious). Additionally, 'bring an important information' is grammatically incorrect; 'provide important information' would be better. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure you proofread for common spelling mistakes to avoid distracting the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'my town named Beas do not have' (subject-verb agreement error: 'does not'), 'I is essential' (should be 'It is'), and 'currently existing' (should be 'currently exist'). There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While your meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and basic sentence construction will significantly improve your accuracy.
