Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing great. I have recently read your article about Kitchener in an international travel magazine, and I think you have mistaken the place of Catholic church.
I have grown up in Kitchener, and I'm well aware with all the streets. The Summary you made about my hometown was actually captivating, and the way you elaborated my city was on another level. However, I want to correct few things that might be misunderstood by you. In actual, Kitchener don't have Catholic church, Instead we have Baptized church in the heart of downtown. To add on, we do have the historic museum site loved by all ages.
I'm sure that you did your research before posting but sometimes we end up making minor errors. I'm grateful for posting my birthplace's insights in news and I would be really appreciate if you publish the new article with accurate version of the church.
Thank you so much for reading my mail. I hope to hear back from you!

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: correcting the information, explaining the importance of accuracy, and suggesting a solution. However, the explanation regarding why it is important for the magazine to provide correct information is somewhat underdeveloped. While you mention that errors happen, you do not explicitly state why accuracy is vital for the magazine's reputation or the readers' experience. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to an editor, although it leans slightly informal at times. To reach a higher band, ensure that the reasoning behind your requests is more fully expanded and clearly linked to the magazine's professional standards.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points of the task. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However' and 'To add on', to link your ideas. However, the transition between sentences is occasionally a bit mechanical, and some referencing is slightly unclear (e.g., 'the way you elaborated my city'). Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow of the letter and help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'captivating', 'elaborated', and 'insights'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'Baptized church' (likely referring to a Baptist church) and 'I would be really appreciate' (should be 'I would really appreciate'). Additionally, 'In actual' is not a standard idiomatic expression. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over vocabulary and common collocations to reach the next band level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement ('Kitchener don't have') and preposition usage ('aware with' instead of 'aware of'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with capitalization and sentence boundaries. While the meaning remains clear throughout the letter, the frequency of these minor errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and standard prepositional phrases will significantly improve your accuracy.
