- explain why it is important for the magazine to give correct information

Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Khush,
I am writing to express my disappointment towards your magazine. This has been second time in last 2 years, where your magazine has published an article with a incorrect information about my town.
In the article, it is mentioned that town hall has only 50 parking spots and people who are attending the concert have to take train to reach here, which is totally incorrect. The city has build new parking facility right opposite of townhall, approximately 100 cars can park without any additional charge. Providing correct information is crucial becasue majority of people are coming from out of town. So instead of taking bus it will be more convenient to drive instead of taking a longer route.
The magazine editor should check the fact before publishing the article. It will be really appreciated if your magazine publish new article on the front page correting the information so that the people who are attending concert can make thier own decision if to travel by car or a train.
Your promt action to this matter is highly appreciated.
Regards,
Bhargav.

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

| Grammatical Range and Accuracy | 6.5 |
| Overall | 7.0 |
Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly identify the incorrect information regarding parking, explain the importance of accuracy for visitors, and suggest a corrective action. However, the tone is slightly inconsistent; you begin by addressing the editor as 'Dear Khush' despite the prompt explicitly instructing you to start with 'Dear Sir or Madam'. Additionally, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. While the points are relevant, expanding slightly on the potential negative impact of the misinformation on local tourism would have strengthened the response. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the tone and formality could be more professional to better suit the context of a formal letter to an editor.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical structure, with each paragraph addressing a specific requirement of the task. The progression of ideas is generally clear, moving from the problem to the explanation and finally the suggested solution. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In the article' and 'So instead of', though the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor grammatical errors. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the letter. To reach a higher band, you could use a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases to connect your sentences more fluidly and improve the overall cohesion of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'disappointment', 'crucial', and 'convenient' appropriately. However, there are some noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'a incorrect' (should be 'an incorrect'), 'becasue', 'correting', and 'thier'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or topic-specific vocabulary related to journalism or travel to demonstrate a broader lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'This has been second time' (missing article), 'city has build' (incorrect verb form), and 'if to travel' (awkward phrasing). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, article usage, and verb tense consistency. Focusing on these areas will help you produce more accurate, error-free sentences.
