You have just read an article in an international travel magazine which contained some information about your town that is incorrect.
Write a letter to the editor of the magazine. In your letter
- correct the information in the article
- explain why it is important for the magazine to give correct information
- suggest what the magazine should do about this situation
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this to address my concern with you about the misinformation that was recently printed last Sunday in an international travel magazine.
The article states that my town has a recreational centre and it is going to arrange a sports event in December where an international audience and teams are welcome, is a false information. Our town does not have such facilities to arrange a massive stadium for such numbers.
It is crucial to write correct information as people from outside the country are starting to visit and finding places to stay. This could be misleading when they find out the truth and can sue the city government for the cost of travel and inconvenience.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could rewrite the article and apologize to the audience who are attracted to the event. Also, inform them that some of the areas in town need assistance with food and other facilities due to flooding.
Looking forward to prompt action and your consideration of the recent danger.
Yours Faithfully,
Nishu

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: correcting the misinformation, explaining the importance of accuracy, and suggesting a resolution. Your tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an editor. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion to inform readers about flooding seems disconnected from the initial issue of the recreational centre. To improve, ensure that your suggestions are directly relevant to the problem described. The letter is well-structured and covers the requirements sufficiently to meet the criteria for a solid band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical progression, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Also' and 'It is crucial to' to link your ideas. However, the transition between the correction of the information and the suggestion regarding the flooding is abrupt, which affects the overall flow. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more explicit. Paragraphing is used correctly, which helps the reader navigate your response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'misinformation', 'crucial', and 'inconvenience'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'massive stadium for such numbers' and 'apologize to the audience who are attracted to the event', which sound slightly unnatural. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Focusing on collocations and more sophisticated phrasing would enhance your lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'is a false information' (which should be 'is false information' or 'is incorrect') and 'address my concern with you' (which is slightly awkward). Additionally, the sentence 'The article states that... is a false information' is grammatically disjointed. Despite these errors, your meaning is generally clear, and the mistakes do not significantly impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles.
