Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to apprise you about the false information that is printed in one of your articles about the town Kurukshetra since It is my hometown. I am born and brought up in Kurukshetra. since it is one of the most powerful spiritual place, I have studied about its importance all my life so.
Firstly, In one of the articles it is mentioned that the holy temple of lord Shiva was built in 20th November 1960 which is incorrect. It was actually built in June 20th 1968.
The other thing which needs to be rectified is the Geeta Jayanti festival. In the article it is written that this happens twice a year but it actually only happens one a year during winters. It is paramount to have all the correct information as Kurukshetra is also a touristic place and a large number of tourists and devotees visit this place all around the year so they should have the right details.
I request you to please do the necessary amendments in the article so that the real information is regulated through your magazine to all the people.
Yours faithfully,
Gunjan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly identified the incorrect information regarding the temple's construction date and the frequency of the Geeta Jayanti festival. You also explained the importance of accuracy for tourism and suggested that the magazine make the necessary amendments. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an editor. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the impact of the misinformation, perhaps by describing how it might confuse or inconvenience potential visitors, which would further develop your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for the corrections, and a concluding request. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different points. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'The other thing', though the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words. For instance, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is slightly abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'apprise', 'rectified', and 'paramount' appropriately. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'regulated through your magazine' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'touristic place' (the standard term is 'tourist destination'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Expanding your range of collocations would help improve the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'I am born and brought up' (should be 'I was born and raised'), 'since It is' (capitalization error), and 'one a year' (should be 'once a year'). Additionally, the sentence 'I have studied about its importance all my life so' is incomplete and lacks a clear conclusion. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Focusing on verb tense consistency and proofreading for minor slips would improve your score.
