Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You identified the incorrect information regarding Surat's diamond and textile production, explained the importance of accuracy for a global publication, and provided a clear suggestion for rectification. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an editor. To improve, ensure that your supporting ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could elaborate on the negative impact of the misinformation on the city's reputation. Overall, the response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'That is why' and 'In your article', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transition between the correction of facts and the request for action could be smoother. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that referencing is consistently precise throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'misleading', 'distributed', and 'subscribers'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in collocation and word choice, such as 'producing worlds 50% and 60% of diamonds', which should be phrased as 'producing 50% and 60% of the world's diamonds'. Additionally, 'public circular' is slightly unnatural in this context; 'public correction' or 'erratum' would be more precise. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary and focusing on natural collocations will help improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that slightly impede the flow, such as missing auxiliary verbs (e.g., 'I, Harsh Patel, writing this letter' should be 'I am writing') and issues with articles and pluralization (e.g., 'worlds 50%'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to affect the overall accuracy. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles when discussing percentages and global statistics.
