Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter because your magazine gave wrong knowledge about my town.

My town is famous for its tourist place and every year we have a lot of visitors there. But in your article you write there transportation is very less bus come every 1 hour and local market has thieves. this type of things impact our local business and site.

Bus delayed only in winters because of snow and bad weather. And if you are talking about thieves i want to neglect that because as we confirmed with police station, there is no such report of robbery. To reduce this challenge you can do further changes like ask locals for information because they know much better. Sometimes it is a good thing to visit a particular place for 2-3 days to know what was place about. And please update your website with correct information.

Thank you so much for your consideration.

Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: correcting the information, explaining the importance of accuracy, and suggesting a solution. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why accuracy is important is brief and could be expanded to discuss the impact on the town's reputation or the economy more thoroughly. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to an editor, although it occasionally feels a bit informal. To improve, ensure that your arguments are fully developed with more supporting detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the purpose of the letter to the corrections and finally to the suggestions. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between the correction of the bus schedule and the issue of thieves is abrupt. Paragraphing is present but could be more effectively used to separate the different points of the letter. Improving the use of linking words such as 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' or 'in light of this' would help the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision expected at higher bands. You rely on basic phrasing, such as 'wrong knowledge' instead of 'inaccurate information' and 'do further changes' instead of 'make adjustments.' There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'neglect that' (when you mean 'refute' or 'deny') and 'very less bus.' To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise vocabulary and idiomatic expressions suitable for a formal letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You have frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'there transportation is very less' and 'bus delayed only in winters.' Additionally, some sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, which occasionally forces the reader to re-read to understand the intended meaning. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly verb tenses and pluralization, will significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
