Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to do some amendments in recently published magazine on the attractions of Chandigarh. I noticed that the information on historical parks was incorrect. Although there are five popular parks in this town, the article mentioned only three, and all are established in north side of the city. Magazine suggest people to visit the southern side.
Incorrect information affects the tourism, as these parks are the first choice of the foreigners. Moreover, It would be a detrimental effect on local businesses and the government, as this is the only income for the locals to survive due to less job opportunities in this area.
I would appreciate it if you could take this issue into your consideration at your earliest convenience, and publish the latest version of this magazine as soon as possible so that tourists have correct knowledge before they visit.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Gurdeep Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: correcting the information, explaining the importance of accuracy, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an editor. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention that the incorrect information affects tourism, you could have provided a more specific example of how a tourist might be misled. The suggestion to 'publish the latest version' is clear, but could be expanded to include a formal apology or a correction notice in the next issue to fully satisfy the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Moreover', and 'so that' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between the first and second paragraph could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'this is the only income for the locals', where 'this' refers back to a broad concept rather than a specific noun. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'amendments', 'detrimental', and 'convenience'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'do some amendments' (should be 'make some amendments') and 'all are established in north side' (should be 'located on the north side'). Despite these minor inaccuracies, your meaning is always clear, and you successfully use some less common vocabulary to convey your message effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you show control over basic grammar, there are several recurring errors. For example, 'in recently published magazine' is missing an article ('a' or 'the'), and 'Magazine suggest people' should be 'The magazine suggests'. Additionally, 'due to less job opportunities' should be 'fewer job opportunities' as jobs are countable. These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more consistent attention to articles, subject-verb agreement, and countability.
