Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to show my concern about the false information related to my hometown in an article written on your magazine.

The information was about the tourist who was treated badly by the locals as he was innocent. However that was not the case, he tried to harass one of the residence which made the locals angry and they call the police. There was no physical harm done to him by anyone. I want you to correct this error as soon as possible.

It is the duty of the magazine to make sure that what they are publishing is authentic. Sharing false detail about something can damage the reputation of the specific place.

In order to solving this issue you should re-upload the article which have right details and make sure to mention that previous one was not correct and contained misleading information.

looking forward for the follow-up article.

Kind regards,

Savera

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly corrected the misinformation regarding the tourist incident, explained the importance of accuracy for the magazine's reputation, and suggested a corrective action. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an editor. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, the explanation of why accuracy is important could be expanded with more specific consequences. While the task is fully covered, the brevity of the arguments keeps this at a solid level where all requirements are met, but not extensively developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing that follows the structure of the prompt. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However', 'In order to', and 'It is the duty of', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is slightly abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is a bit mechanical. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the letter is easy to follow, meeting the criteria for a band 6.5 to 7.0 range.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'misleading information', 'authentic', and 'reputation'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'residence' instead of 'residents' and 'on your magazine' instead of 'in your magazine'. These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight a need for more precise control over collocations and word forms. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to journalism or formal correspondence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The letter uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the tourist who was treated badly... as he was innocent' (which is slightly confusing in context), 'they call the police' (tense inconsistency; should be 'called'), and 'In order to solving' (should be 'In order to solve'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on consistent verb tense usage and correct gerund/infinitive forms after prepositions.
