Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to express my disappointment on your article, which contains irrelevant information regarding my town.

In the article, there are plenty of details are incorrect. Such as, the construction of my town is quite similar to other towns, local people of my town are impolite and rude and there is no tourist attraction places. All this information are wrong, because appearance of my town is unique and modern across the world, a number of locations are famous for their breathtaking view of nature which attract the visitors and citizens are polite, responsible and helpful.

Providing accurate information to the local community give them better idea about the importance of our town in the history and access them best places for travelling. Moreover, negative comments have negative impacts on the tourism industry and hurts the emotions of local populace. Therefore, it is your responsibility to provide reliable and accurate data to the readers.

It would be also appreciated if you could send the apology letter to governments of our town for your mistake and mitigate the chances of unforeseen consequences, and please try to edit the inaccurate details soon.

I hope you consider my concern and try your best for including correct information in the article. Additionally, try to arrange in-person meeting to out town to clear your misunderstanding. Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours faithfully,

Twinkle

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: correcting the misinformation, explaining the importance of accuracy, and suggesting a resolution. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an editor. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the second paragraph where the description of the town is a bit simplistic. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more specific, nuanced examples of the inaccuracies rather than general statements. The suggestions for the magazine are clear, though the request for an 'apology letter to governments' is slightly unusual in this context. Overall, the task is fulfilled effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Therefore', and 'Additionally' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between correcting the information and explaining the importance of accuracy is a bit abrupt. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some sentence structures are slightly awkward, which occasionally impacts the ease of reading. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'disappointment', 'unforeseen', and 'mitigate'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'construction of my town' (instead of 'layout' or 'architecture') and 'attraction places' (instead of 'tourist attractions'). Additionally, the phrase 'access them best places' is grammatically incorrect and lexically imprecise. While your meaning is always clear, the vocabulary is somewhat limited and occasionally relies on basic phrasing. Expanding your range of collocations and using more precise terminology would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'there are plenty of details are incorrect' and 'All this information are wrong'. There are also errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'to out town' instead of 'to our town'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score. You should focus on proofreading for basic agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately.
