Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the task: correcting the information, explaining the importance of accuracy, and suggesting a solution. However, the development of these points is quite basic. The explanation of why accuracy is important is repetitive, and the suggestion for the magazine is vague. The tone is also somewhat informal and aggressive ('you should be able for writing'), which is not entirely appropriate for a formal letter to an editor. To improve, you should expand on your ideas with more sophisticated reasoning and adopt a more professional, polite tone suitable for a formal complaint.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The letter lacks a clear paragraph structure, which is essential for formal correspondence. The ideas are presented in a single block, making it difficult to follow the progression of the argument. There is a lack of cohesive devices; the sentences are mostly simple and linked by basic conjunctions like 'and' or 'because'. To reach a higher band, you must use clear paragraphing (an introduction, body paragraphs for each bullet point, and a conclusion) and a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in light of this') to connect your ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic words like 'news', 'bad', and 'important'. There are also several word-choice errors, such as 'which is belong to' instead of 'which belongs to', and 'palace' instead of 'place'. The phrasing is often unnatural, such as 'I do not found any unnessecery thing'. To improve, you should focus on learning collocations and more precise vocabulary related to journalism and formal complaints. Spelling errors, such as 'unnessecery', also detract from the overall quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammar is characterized by frequent errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with verb tenses ('I read the news... I was so disturbing'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing capital letters at the start of sentences and incorrect use of commas. You rely almost exclusively on simple sentence structures. To improve, you need to practice basic sentence construction, ensure correct subject-verb agreement, and attempt to incorporate complex sentences using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions.
