Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to inform you about the information which you provided in an international magazine is incorrect and I would like to request you to correct it.
Last weekend, I saw that the Toronto travel magazine mentioned about the duration of metro plan which is still in progress. I read that they mentioned it is going to take 12 months and 55 days, which was incorrect. The plan has started already and it will be finish within 6 months. I would like to request to correct the information in the article as those passengers who will travel with this route should know about the correct duration otherwise they will be unaware about it.
The magazine should re-post this issue again in the article so that the viewers can know about it and get the the correct information to the society.
Thank you for your consideration and time.
Yours sincerely,
Sahista

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly identify the incorrect information regarding the metro project duration, explain the importance of accuracy for passengers, and suggest a corrective action. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of why accuracy is important could be more detailed, and the suggestion for the magazine is a bit repetitive. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully extended and that the tone remains consistently professional throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, starting with the purpose of the letter, moving to the specific correction, and ending with a suggested solution. Paragraphing is present, though the body of the letter feels a bit cramped. You use some cohesive devices like 'otherwise' and 'so that', but the flow is occasionally interrupted by slightly awkward phrasing, such as 're-post this issue again'. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure could benefit from more sophisticated linking words to improve the flow between sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on simple phrasing, such as 'mentioned about' and 'get the correct information'. There are also some minor collocation issues, such as 'it will be finish' (should be 'finished') and 'get the correct information to the society'. To improve, try to incorporate more specific vocabulary related to journalism or public announcements, such as 'erroneous report', 'rectify', or 'misleading'. The range is sufficient to convey your meaning, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For example, 'the information which you provided in an international magazine is incorrect' is a bit clunky, and 'it will be finish' is a clear error in verb form. Additionally, 'the the' is a minor slip. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage in your future writing.
