Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my concern regarding an article that I just read in an international travel magazine about our town having wrong information.
I was just reading the magazine yesterday named, "Travel Miles" which is international based. After reading some of the pages, I came across our towns information which was irrelevant , saying that most of the crimes are here. In addition to this, it also mentioned regarding sex education which was illicit.
As a member and being responsible citizen, I think it is important to give correct information as so many people even though children read them. Children being future of the nation should be given correct information about where there were born, their past and history. This will really leave a bad impact on society's minds who comes across and reads it.
I suggest you to research and contact the company who published the magazine so that they can rewrite it.
Thank you,
Baljinder

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly identify the incorrect information regarding crime and sex education, explain the importance of accuracy for the public, and suggest a resolution. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why accuracy is important is a bit repetitive and could be more professionally articulated. To reach a higher band, ensure that the tone is consistently formal and that your arguments are fully extended with more sophisticated reasoning rather than general statements about children and the future.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'In addition to this' and 'However' (though 'However' was not used, you used 'In addition to this' and 'so that'). The progression of ideas is generally clear. To improve, you should use a wider range of linking words and transition phrases to connect your sentences more fluidly. Some sentences feel slightly disjointed, and the transition between the problem and your suggested solution could be smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, but there are some inaccuracies in word choice. For example, 'international based' is not a standard collocation; 'internationally based' or 'an international publication' would be better. The phrase 'our towns information which was irrelevant' is also imprecise; 'inaccurate' or 'misleading' would be more appropriate than 'irrelevant'. While your meaning is clear, the vocabulary lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentences, but there are several grammatical errors. For example, 'Children being future of the nation' is missing an article ('the future'). The sentence 'I suggest you to research and contact...' is grammatically awkward; 'I suggest that you research' or 'I suggest researching' is preferred. There are also minor punctuation issues, such as the placement of commas. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to limit your score in this criterion.
