Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my concern about an article in your recent travel magazine that contains incorrect information about my hometown.
The article states that our hometown has no public transportation and that the museum has been closed for several years. However, this information is inaccurate. In fact, we have reliable transportation system that operates everyday, and the museum is open throughout the week. It is one of the popular tourist attraction in our area.
Your magazine needs to publish accurate information because many people rely on it when planning their holidays. Incorrect information can confuse visitors and can also damage the reputation of our hometown. Moreover, it can discourage tourists to coming here which can negatively effect the local business of people .
I kindly request you to change the incorrect information from your website and also change it from other written magazines as soon as possible. I hope you will take appropriate actions about this situation.
Yours faithfully,
Jashan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly identified the incorrect information regarding public transport and the museum, explained the negative impact of these errors on tourists and local businesses, and suggested that the magazine should correct the information across their platforms. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an editor. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the 'why' or 'how' to provide more depth, but overall, the task is fulfilled effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'In fact' to link your ideas. To improve, ensure that your transitions between sentences are even smoother. For example, the link between the importance of accurate information and the suggestion for action could be strengthened with a more explicit transition.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'inaccurate', 'reputation', and 'appropriate actions'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'discourage tourists to coming here' (should be 'from coming') and 'local business of people' (which is slightly unnatural). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary related to journalism or travel would also help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips. For instance, 'reliable transportation system' is missing an article ('a'), 'popular tourist attraction' should be plural ('attractions'), and 'negatively effect' should be 'negatively affect' (verb vs. noun). Despite these errors, they do not impede communication. To move to a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
