Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear international travel magazine I'm writing to you because 2 days ago I have reading your magazine and i found some incorrect information about Milan, so i would like to give my advise to correct these information.

First the last stop of yellow subway is San Donato Milanese, it doesn't stop at Corvetto keep going untie San donato for 2 more stops.

The second information I have found incorrect is about the location of Duomo museum in your article said it' in Porta Romana but it's totally incorrect the correct location is in square Duomo.

I believe is important for a magazine famous like your to give correct information because after tourist around the world could get lost inside the city and couldn't arrived at the correct place.

I also believe in this case you magazine lose credibility and for that I don't think I will buy another copy.

I really suggest to fix the error and ask apologize to your customer.

Thank you and have a good day.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: correcting the information, explaining the importance of accuracy, and suggesting a solution. Your tone is generally appropriate for a letter to an editor, although it becomes slightly informal at times. The ideas are relevant, but some could be developed further to reach a higher band. For example, the explanation of why accuracy is important is a bit brief. To improve, ensure that your arguments are fully extended and that the tone remains consistently professional throughout the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally mechanical. For instance, you use 'First' and 'The second information' to transition, but the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'in your article said it'', which lacks a clear subject. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the overall cohesion of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, but there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors. For example, 'give my advise' should be 'give my advice' (noun vs. verb), and 'magazine famous like your' is grammatically incorrect. You also use 'ask apologize', which is not a standard collocation; 'issue an apology' would be more natural. While your meaning is generally clear, the lack of precision and some basic errors in word formation prevent a higher score. Expanding your range of collocations will help.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You have frequent errors in verb tense and subject-verb agreement, such as 'I have reading' instead of 'I was reading' and 'you magazine lose' instead of 'your magazine loses'. Punctuation is also an issue, with several run-on sentences and missing commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to distract the reader. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy and proofreading for tense consistency will significantly improve your score.
