Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my concern about an article with wrong information about my town in your magazine.
I appreciate you published an article about Kitchener, but there is some information about the city's history and it's facilities written wrong in your magazine. Kitchener fort built in 1890 not in 1895. Secondly, in Kitchener there is one big hospital and two convent school and also two big multi story shopping malls.
Your magazine is well known at national level and favorite magazine of everyone. Wrong information about my town can make negative impact on my town's image. Kitchener is popular tourist spot and people will think this city has less facilities and that would reduce it's popularity . So it is very important for the city's reputation to provide right information about it.
I would suggest you to publish an another article about Kitchener with right information along with an apology letter. This will help to clear the wrong image of Kitchener from reader's mind.
Thank you for your consideration. I look forward hearing for your prompt action.
Kind regards,
Jasmeet Singh,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly identified the incorrect information regarding the fort's construction date and local facilities, explained the importance of accuracy for the town's reputation, and provided a logical suggestion for the magazine to rectify the error. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an editor. To reach a higher band, ensure that your explanations are slightly more detailed; for instance, you could elaborate on how the incorrect information might specifically affect local tourism or business investment, rather than just mentioning 'popularity'. Overall, the task is fully covered.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Secondly' and 'So', to link your ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases. For example, instead of starting sentences with 'Kitchener' repeatedly, you could use referencing pronouns or synonyms to improve the cohesion between sentences. The paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the overall clarity of the message.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'reputation', 'consideration', and 'prompt action'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'written wrong' (should be 'incorrectly stated') and 'favorite magazine of everyone' (which is slightly informal and imprecise). Additionally, there are minor errors in pluralization, such as 'two convent school' (should be 'schools'). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to journalism and public relations to enhance the professional tone of your letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'I appreciate you published' should be 'I appreciate that you published', and 'I look forward hearing for your prompt action' should be 'I look forward to hearing from you regarding your prompt action'. There are also issues with article usage ('the city's history and its facilities') and possessive apostrophes ('it's' vs 'its'). While these errors do not prevent the meaning from being understood, they occur frequently enough to limit your score in this criterion.
