Student answer (Band 6.0)

Respected editor,

I am writing this letter to inform you about the incorrect information that I read in your magazine about my town. No doubt, an article in your travel magazine is wonderful about the town. In the magazine, one article about a Hindu temple has half the information that was put wrong impacct who read this article.

I request you to update the proper information in this article because most of the people are emotionally attached to the temple. With this, they can gain wrong information and become hurt. If you correctly update the history of this temple, I will be thankful to you.

I also want to mention here that, while updating the article, include a note about the incorrect information. The magazine should edit the article as soon as possible so that readers can easily obtain the correct historical story of the temple.

I am waiting for your answer and the corrected article.

Yours faithfully,

Aman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: correcting the information, explaining the importance of accuracy, and suggesting a solution. However, the development is somewhat limited. The explanation of why accuracy is important is a bit repetitive, and the correction of the information is vague, as you did not specify what the actual facts are regarding the temple. To reach a higher band, ensure you provide more specific details about the error and the correct information to make the letter more convincing and realistic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'I also want to mention' and 'With this'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure lacks the sophisticated linking required for higher bands. Improving the variety of your cohesive devices would enhance the logical progression of your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You use simple phrases like 'put wrong' and 'gain wrong information', which are not natural collocations. There are also some errors in word choice, such as 'impacct' (spelling error) and 'put wrong impacct who read this article', which makes the meaning slightly unclear. To improve, try to use more specific vocabulary related to journalism and corrections, such as 'inaccurate reporting', 'rectify', or 'misleading information'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading, such as 'an article in your travel magazine is wonderful about the town' and 'most of the people are emotionally attached to the temple. With this, they can gain wrong information'. The sentence structure is often repetitive. To achieve a higher score, focus on reducing errors in subject-verb agreement and word order, and try to incorporate a wider range of complex sentence forms with greater accuracy.
