Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this mail to share my feedback on the article which was published by your publication house.

Last week I read an article in your international travel magazine named 'Travel Around the World'. The article was about exploring the streets of Indian capital city, The Delhi. The article was really impressive and covered almost all the significant tourist spots and sightseeing. The best part about the article that I personally liked, how the article highlighted and describes some hidden gems of old Delhi, which resembles Delhi's culture and hertiage.

while, the overall article was perfect neverthless there were few details in the article which I found incorrect or not correctly cited. I noticed few names were incorrectly written for entance, Its Jhawhri bazar not Jhauri bazar, Cannaught place not Kannuaght place.

Similarely, some spots were incorrectly mapped, for examples, Rajiv chowk, the one that you highlighted on the map is different from the one we are talking about in the article.

I compeletely understand and it is obivous that these small mistakes are some times unavoidable specially when you visit the Delhi first time. Moreover, it is equally important that we should provide correct information to our readers as many people follows and take reference from your magzines.

Delhi is one of the oldest city in the world which hold strong cultural, religious and political signifinance in history. It is really important that your reader should only read right information about the city.

I request you to kindly double check all the information again and correct the all the misspelled words

and wrong information in next releases and future prints. I would suggest you to issue a press release of notes on your other magzines about these mistakes.

I really appreciate your understanding on this.

Yours sincerely,

Navdeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly identify the incorrect information regarding street names and map locations, explain the importance of accuracy for readers, and suggest a corrective course of action. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an editor. However, the development of ideas is slightly repetitive, particularly in the section discussing the importance of accuracy. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph adds distinct value rather than restating the same point. Overall, the task is fully addressed with a clear purpose maintained throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'Similarely' (spelled incorrectly) to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical errors and some awkward transitions. For instance, the jump between the introduction and the specific corrections is a bit abrupt. While the paragraphing is sufficient, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes repetitive or slightly forced. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'significant tourist spots,' 'hidden gems,' and 'cultural significance.' However, there are frequent spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'hertiage,' 'compeletely,' 'obivous,' and 'magzines.' These errors are noticeable and detract from the professional tone of the letter. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, the high frequency of spelling mistakes limits the score. To improve, focus on proofreading for common spelling patterns and expanding your use of more precise, academic collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'I am writing this mail to share my feedback on the article which was published by your publication house' (wordy/awkward), 'how the article highlighted and describes' (tense inconsistency), and 'correct the all the misspelled words' (article error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
