Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses all three bullet points: correcting the information, explaining the importance of accuracy, and suggesting a solution. However, the development of these ideas is very limited due to the brevity of the letter. The response is 20 words under the 150-word minimum, which significantly impacts the depth of the argument. The tone is somewhat informal and lacks the professional register expected in a letter to an editor. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detail and ensure you meet the minimum word count requirement to allow for full development of your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The letter lacks a clear paragraph structure, which is essential for formal correspondence. While there is a basic attempt to sequence ideas, the transitions between sentences are weak and repetitive. The use of cohesive devices is minimal, making the flow of the letter feel disjointed. For example, the transition between the explanation of the error and the suggestion is abrupt. To improve, use clear paragraph breaks for each main point and employ a wider range of linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in light of this' to connect your thoughts more logically.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive, relying on simple phrasing like 'wrong information' and 'not good'. There is a lack of variety and precision in word choice. Some collocations are unnatural, such as 'put a bad impact' instead of 'have a negative impact' or 'make a public notice' instead of 'issue a public correction'. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary related to journalism and formal complaints, and focus on using words in their correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('your magazine will goes', 'providing wrong information give you'), article usage, and sentence structure. The range of structures is limited to simple sentences, with very few attempts at complex or compound sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and pluralization. Incorporating more complex sentence structures will also help demonstrate a higher level of grammatical control.
