Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir or madam,
I recently read the article about my town in your magazine, and I notice some wrong information about my town. I just want to explain what that was in following paragraphs.
In the magazine mention that our town have no library and parks for children which is totally wrong information because our town does not make any separate building for a library. Instead, our gurdwara is place where our library is situated. Also, our parks are cover in our sports ground and it has also have playing cradles for all age groups childrens.
As I mention here that if I feel very disappointed by this statement then other town people also hurt by this. Because as we know that many people read this article and make negative impression about our town so I want that you definitely correct it in next magazine articles because most a people got information from these articles. Magazines are source of data in which we trusted and make our viewpoint.
so, I request you to consider opinion and make correction in future build article.
Yours faithfully,
RAM

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: correcting the information, explaining the importance of accuracy, and suggesting a solution. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. The explanation of the library and park situation is slightly confusing due to grammatical issues, and the suggestion for the magazine is quite brief. While the tone is appropriate for a letter to an editor, the ideas could be expanded with more detail to fully meet the requirements of a higher band. The response is clear in its purpose, but the lack of depth in the arguments prevents it from reaching a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the transition 'As I mention here that if I feel...' is clunky and lacks natural flow. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the use of 'that' and 'it' in the second paragraph, which makes it difficult to track the specific subjects being discussed. While the overall progression is coherent, the lack of sophisticated linking words and occasional awkward phrasing limits the score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'playing cradles' instead of 'playground equipment' and 'town people' instead of 'residents'. The repetition of the word 'town' and 'article' indicates a limited range of vocabulary. While the meaning is generally clear, the student struggles to use less common lexical items effectively, and there are some errors in collocation that slightly hinder the professional tone of the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'our town have no library', 'most a people'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and sentence boundaries. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and detract from the overall quality of the writing. A greater focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for agreement errors would significantly improve the score.
