Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: correcting the information, explaining the importance of accuracy, and suggesting a solution. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum, which impacts the overall score. The development of ideas is somewhat superficial; for instance, the explanation of why accuracy is important is quite brief. To improve, you should expand on the potential consequences of the misinformation, such as the negative impact on the town's reputation or the frustration of tourists. Additionally, the tone is inconsistent; while it attempts a formal structure, the phrasing is often repetitive and lacks the professional polish expected in a letter to an editor.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the flow between sentences is often mechanical and lacks a variety of cohesive devices. For example, the transition between the problem and the suggestion is abrupt. The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'in which magazine you can rewrite about my town,' which is confusing. To improve, use a wider range of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' 'in light of this') to guide the reader more smoothly through your argument and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'wrong,' 'information,' and 'magazine.' There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'dedicated for our work' instead of 'dedicated to your work' and 'new addition' instead of 'new edition.' The phrasing 'hold the wrong information' is unnatural; 'possess incorrect information' or 'are misinformed' would be more appropriate. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to journalism and travel, and avoid repeating the same words in close proximity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with articles ('the an international'), verb tense ('you can wrote'), and prepositions ('look forward hearing to you'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Errors such as 'people have to right' (should be 'the right') and 'while the visit here' (should be 'during their visit') occasionally impede the clarity of the message. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and expanding your repertoire of complex sentence structures to demonstrate greater control over English grammar.
