Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt, but the development is limited. You successfully identify the incorrect information regarding human-animal cohabitation and the future of work, and you suggest that the magazine should issue a correction. However, the response falls short of the 150-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the score. The ideas are somewhat repetitive, and the tone is not consistently appropriate for a formal letter to an editor. To improve, ensure you expand on your arguments with more detail and ensure you meet the minimum word count to fully develop your points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter is divided into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical flow is often disrupted by awkward phrasing and a lack of effective cohesive devices. Transitions like 'consequantly' and 'furthermore' are used, but they are often followed by sentences that are difficult to follow due to grammatical errors. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to track your argument. To improve, focus on using linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that connects logically to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive, with several spelling errors such as 'totaly', 'consequantly', 'straightforword', and 'inovetion'. You rely on simple words like 'good' and 'wrong', which limits your ability to express your ideas with precision. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'correct knowledge' instead of 'accurate information'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary, including collocations and more precise terminology related to the topic of journalism and societal issues, while paying closer attention to spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'In this magazine has given a article', 'human work will be reduce', and 'I humble request to you'. The sentence structures are often simple or incorrectly constructed, leading to confusion. There is a lack of control over basic verb tenses and subject-verb agreement. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and practice using complex structures like relative clauses or conditional sentences more accurately.
