Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter regarding your recent article about Drayton Valley, in your an international travel magazine. You wrote amazing about my town but there is some wrong information that you published about it.

First thing which you mentioned wrong that this town have only one grocery store which is Walmart. I want to correct you here that we have two more grocery stores in the town which are IGA and Your Independent grocery store. No doubt, these stores are the south of the town where visitors cannot find it easily, but these stores are part of the town as well.

Apart form this, you wrote in your aticle that this town does not have any attraction places. I want to let you know that we have beautiful lake named, Golden lake, where we can do camping as well. Visitors stay there for night camping and for the sunset view from that lake.

These are the two wrong informations you published in your magazine about my town which I want you to be correct as soon as possible.

Regards,

Arsh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: correcting the information, explaining the importance of accuracy, and suggesting a solution. However, the response is slightly underdeveloped. While you mention that the magazine should correct the information, you do not explicitly explain why accuracy is important for the magazine's reputation or the readers' experience, which is a requirement of the prompt. To improve, ensure you fully expand on each bullet point. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although some phrasing is slightly informal. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First thing', 'Apart from this', and 'These are'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more sophisticated. The referencing is generally clear, though some transitions feel a bit repetitive. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly, rather than relying on simple list-like transitions at the start of each paragraph.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'grocery store', 'camping', and 'attraction places'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'wrote amazing' (should be 'wrote amazingly' or 'gave a wonderful account') and 'wrong informations' (information is an uncountable noun and should not be pluralized). To improve, focus on using more precise adjectives and adverbs, and ensure you are using common collocations correctly to enhance the naturalness of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'the south of the town' (should be 'in the south'), 'named, Golden lake' (incorrect comma usage), and 'I want you to be correct' (should be 'I would like you to correct'). Subject-verb agreement is also inconsistent, for example, 'this town have' instead of 'this town has'. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules like pluralization, verb conjugation, and preposition usage. Increasing your control over these areas will significantly improve your score.
