Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear sir,

I am writing this letter to request you to correct some of the information that you have provided in your magazine, which is recently published at international level contains some false information. I am shreya soni, I am resident of Anand city.

Starting with, I have read whole magazine that you have published with the name of, “Life of milk City” is almost accurate, but some of the information that you added in the second last page about the poor milk production and problems faced by Individuals living there is completely false.

Moving further, it is very important to correct this, because the city is well known for its milk production and it is delivered throughout the India. And there are a lot of articles already published on milk delivery and production. It already states that this is the city which produce high amount of milk. And they are selling pasturized milk in India. Please correct this information, because in my point of view it is major concern regarding the economy of my city. My city is generating high revenue by delivering milk across the other city.

Lastly, since you have already published this magazine, so I would suggest you to post correction note on internet about this magazine. Individual will get the correct information instead of misleading information.

Awaiting for your response on this concern.

Yours Faithfully,

Shreya Soni

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You identified the incorrect information regarding milk production in Anand city, explained the importance of accuracy due to the city's economic reliance on the dairy industry, and provided a clear suggestion for a correction note. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to an editor. To reach a higher band, ensure that your opening is more concise and that you avoid repetitive phrasing, such as mentioning the 'milk city' title multiple times without adding new information. The development of your ideas is clear and relevant to the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each serving a clear purpose. You use some cohesive devices like 'Starting with', 'Moving further', and 'Lastly' to guide the reader. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or unnatural. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the referencing is occasionally repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'my city' and 'this information'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow and coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'milk production', 'pasteurized', and 'revenue'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'request you to correct some of the information' (better: 'request a correction of the information') and 'post correction note on internet' (better: 'publish a correction notice online'). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Focusing on more natural collocations will help improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'which is recently published' (should be 'which was recently published'), 'I am resident of' (should be 'I am a resident of'), and 'across the other city' (should be 'across other cities'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, though some sentence boundaries are slightly awkward. To improve, focus on article usage (a/the) and ensuring consistent verb tenses when describing past events versus current situations.
