Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter about my dissatisfaction about article which I red in international travel magazine about my town which was totally incorrect.
Although my town is neat and clean, article said it has lot of pollution due to population. However, from last few years government has been trying to make it green and that plan has been successful.
Firstly, I would like to say magazines are powerful source of information, whatever it said people will believe. In addition to that, this is international magazine, so it will distribute the information all around the world. Hence, it is essential to write correct information.
I would like to request you to correct the wrong information about my town and rewrite the article and make it clear. My town is not only clean but also it has greenery all around due to government effort as well as population contribute to maintain that. If you need additional information about my town I am free to guide you.
I will look forward to your response.
Kind regards
Ritika

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: correcting the misinformation, explaining the importance of accuracy, and suggesting a resolution. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an editor. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of why accuracy is important is a bit repetitive, and the suggestion to 'rewrite the article' is quite brief. To reach a higher band, you could expand on the impact of the misinformation on the town's tourism or local economy, providing more specific details to support your position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Firstly', 'In addition to that', and 'Hence' to connect ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'In addition to that, this is international magazine'. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the reference to 'my town' is handled more smoothly throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'dissatisfaction', 'pollution', and 'greenery'. However, there are several instances of missing articles (e.g., 'about article', 'in international travel magazine') and minor word choice issues (e.g., 'powerful source of information' is acceptable but could be more precise). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the sophistication or flexibility required for higher bands. Focusing on collocations and article usage will help improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding articles ('the article', 'an international magazine') and verb tense consistency ('article said it has lot of pollution'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'population contribute to maintain that'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures and proofreading for basic article and pluralization errors will be beneficial.
