Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
Subject: Published wrong information in the magazine.
I am writing you to inform that the article you published in your magazine about city of Toronto is contained wrong information about the city. I am a native of Toronto. I would like to tell you that the name Toronto’s tower is CN Tower rather than BM Tower. It is very essential to correct this information because CN Tower is tourist place and people should know the actual name of the place so they cannot face any problems to find the location which is pride of city.
In addition, I would like to request you to republish the magazine and give the proper knowledge to audiences regarding the CN Tower, even, about the price of entry tickets as well as the price of the tickets for edge walking and other activities.
I am looking forward towards you positive response. Thank you so much.
Yours faithfully,
Sukhbir.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all three bullet points from the prompt effectively. You successfully correct the misinformation regarding the tower's name, explaining that it is the CN Tower rather than the BM Tower. You also explain the importance of accurate information so tourists do not face difficulties finding this pride of the city. Finally, you suggest that the magazine should republish the article with correct details, including entry ticket prices and activity costs. Although some ideas could be slightly more elaborated, your letter fulfills the general training requirements well and maintains an appropriate tone throughout. You have addressed the task fully.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
Your letter is organised with a clear beginning, middle, and end, following standard formal letter conventions such as 'Dear Sir or Madam' and 'Yours faithfully'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, moving from the correction to the explanation of importance, followed by your suggestions. However, paragraphing could be improved; the body of the letter is compressed into a single long paragraph that addresses multiple points, and the subject line is unconventional for formal correspondence. Cohesive devices are used adequately, but transitions between ideas feel a bit mechanical at times, such as the phrase 'In addition'. Overall, the text is coherent and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate vocabulary range to communicate your message effectively. You use functional vocabulary relevant to the topic, such as 'native', 'tourist place', 'republish', and 'entry tickets'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'Subject: Published wrong information in the magazine' instead of 'Incorrect information published in your magazine', and 'I am writing you to inform that' instead of 'I am writing to inform you that'. You also use 'proper knowledge' where 'accurate information' would be more natural. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the score from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar. For example, you successfully construct relative clauses and infinitive phrases, such as 'people should know the actual name of the place so they cannot face any problems to find the location'. However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward structures throughout the text, including 'is contained wrong information', 'so they cannot face any problems to find', and 'looking forward towards you positive response'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but prepositional and passive voice errors occur frequently enough to cause occasional hesitation for the reader.
