Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am Kajal Arora. I am writing to express my concern about the wrong information about our town in an article. Last tuesday, I read an article in the travel magzine then I noticed some of the information was incorrect.
Although I read in the article that our town is quite over-crowded as well as less santization facilities are available, which is actually not the case. Even, local people are more passionate about the cleanlines and planting trees. In addition, it is written in the magazine that residents park their private vehicles on the roads. Utilmately, this is not only create traffic on the street but also they are breaking the ctiy rule of parking.
I believe that it is really important to ractify the incorrect information so that the General public can get the correct information about our town. Otherwise, this article can set a wrong image about this area among the people. It would be grateful if you can rewrite the news and print it again in your reputated magazine. I assure you it would save your company from the public's allegation. Since birth, I have been living in this area. After raeding this article, I felt gloomy.
I look forward to your response and hope this matter can be resolved without any delay.
Yours faithfully,
Kajal Arora.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the prompt. You begin by correcting the misinformation regarding overcrowding and sanitation facilities, noting that the town actually has passionate residents who care about cleanliness and tree planting. You then explain why accurate reporting matters, pointing out that false claims can create a negative image among the public. Finally, you suggest that the magazine should rewrite the article and print a retraction. The tone is appropriately formal for a letter to an editor, and all parts of the task are adequately addressed and extended. However, the development remains slightly straightforward rather than fully explored, placing it solidly in the Band 7 range.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a clear overall progression, moving logically from the statement of purpose to the corrections, the reasons for correction, the suggested action, and a polite sign-off. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different ideas. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Although', 'In addition', and 'Otherwise', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'Even, local people' and 'Utilmately, this is not only create'. Referencing is generally clear, and the overall arrangement guides the reader successfully through the text, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'over-crowded', 'sanitation facilities', and 'allegation'. However, there are several spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'magzine' instead of 'magazine', 'santization', 'cleanlines', 'Utilmately', 'ractify', 'reputated', and 'raeding'. While these errors do not impede overall communication and the meaning remains clear, they restrict the lexical score because accurate spelling and precise word formation are necessary for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writing includes a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as concessive clauses beginning with 'Although' and conditional sentences with 'Otherwise'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, particularly with verb forms and subject-verb agreement. For example, you wrote 'less santization facilities are available' instead of 'fewer sanitisation facilities are available', and 'this is not only create traffic' instead of 'this not only creates traffic'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but grammatical slips persist across multiple sentences, meaning communication occasionally requires extra effort from the reader.
