Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The candidate has attempted all parts of the task prompt, successfully covering the correction of information, the explanation of why accuracy matters, and beginning a suggestion. However, the response trails off and remains unfinished at the end ("I would therefore suggest that the magzine..."), which prevents full development of the final bullet point. In terms of positive performance, the tone is appropriately formal for a letter to an editor, and the specific corrections regarding Palvancha's transport and attractions are clearly stated. Because the third bullet point is incomplete, the response does not fully satisfy all requirements to the standard of higher bands. Therefore, a band score of 5.5 reflects an attempt at all parts where some aspects are left under-developed due to the incomplete ending.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a clear, conventional layout starting with an appropriate salutation and opening statement. Ideas are grouped reasonably well into paragraphs; for instance, the first body paragraph addresses the corrections, while the second discusses the importance of accuracy. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'However', and 'In addition' are used to connect ideas, although some punctuation and capitalization errors occasionally disrupt the flow. Furthermore, the abrupt halt at the end affects overall progression and cohesion. Referencing is generally clear, though paragraphing is impacted by the incomplete final sentence. This performance aligns best with the band 6 descriptor, where there is a coherent overall arrangement even though cohesion can be faulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully employing topic-specific terms such as 'inaccurate information', 'well-developed town', and 'industrial visits'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-form errors throughout the text, including 'hometowm', 'few details' (missing 'a'), 'generationg', 'lot of' (informal), 'convient', and 'magzine'. While these lexical errors do not completely impede communication, they reveal limitations in spelling and word choice that prevent the response from achieving a higher band. Less common lexical items are attempted with some inaccuracy. This corresponds closely to the band 6 descriptor for Lexical Resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I am writing to express my concern about...' and 'It is important for your magzine to provide accurate information because many international tourists rely on...'. There are, however, frequent errors in punctuation and capitalization, such as missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences ('It states...', 'Palvancha is...', 'Mainly, the town...') and missing commas or periods. Grammatical control is variable, with minor slip-ups in articles and prepositions. These errors do not generally impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the intended message easily. This balance of mixed structures and persistent errors fits the band 6 criteria well.
