Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
It has come to my attention that your magzine published an article about my town. While there were alot of things that I liked about your article, there was something in particular that I need to highlight, which was'nt true.
You wrote in your article that the town wasn't particularly safe for the biker's community. This misinformation caught my attention since our town is very welcoming towards all the travellers including the biker's community. We have a dedicated space for the travellers to park their bikes and bicycles. Local community don't use that space. We charge a very minimal amount to ensure all the belongings are kept safe when the travellers are visiting different spots in the town. There is even a special discount at many of our restaurants specially for bikers. We value everyone coming to our town equally.
This misleading information from your magzine has caused a great decline in number of tourists coming here. Therefore it is only right for you to accept your mistake and provide correct authentic information to people who might want to travel to our town.
I would suggest you to hire one of the travel bloggers particularly a solo bike traveller, to come pay our town a visit, To see how we take care of the travellers and our hospitality.
You can then interview that traveller for your magzine, that way people would get to see our positive image.
I am looking forward to hearing from you very soon & I will be expecting a positive response from your side.
Regards,
Novaira Waseem

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all the required bullet points of the prompt. You clearly corrected the misinformation regarding the safety of bikers in your town by providing specific details about parking spaces and restaurant discounts. Furthermore, you explained the negative impact of this misinformation, mentioning the decline in tourism, and suggested a practical solution involving inviting a travel blogger. The tone is appropriately formal for a letter to an editor, and your purpose is clear throughout the text. Although the opening salutation 'Dear Sir' does not strictly match the required 'Dear Sir or Madam,' the overall content fully satisfies the task requirements, leading to a solid band score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter exhibits a clear overall progression, moving logically from the identification of the error to its correction, the explanation of the consequences, and finally your suggested solution. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as the details about the town's biker facilities in the second paragraph and the proposed solution later on. Cohesive devices are generally well managed, though some transitions could be smoother. Referencing is mostly clear, with words like 'this misinformation' and 'that way' helping to connect sentences, resulting in a coherent piece of writing.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your ideas with some precision, using phrases like 'misinformation,' 'minimal amount,' and 'hospitability.' However, there are a few spelling and word-choice errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'magzine' (magazine), 'alot' (a lot), and the repeated misspelling of 'biker's' where a plural 'bikers' is more suitable. While you attempt less common lexical items, these minor errors and occasional slight spelling slips indicate that Band 7 is the most appropriate descriptor for your current lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'While there were a lot of things that I liked...'. There are, however, several grammatical errors and punctuation issues present throughout the text, including the apostrophe error in 'was'nt' and run-on structures like '...come pay our town a visit, To see how we...'. Additionally, comma splices and minor punctuation slips occur in the final paragraphs. Despite these errors, they do not impede overall communication, placing your grammatical performance comfortably at Band 6.
