Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this to let you know that I read your artical in international magazine, that you published yesterday. It contain some infromation about my home town that is not correct.
There are some mistakes I would like to correct. Firstly, my town is not famous for it's mellons. It is famous for it's mangos. Second, the spring favestival is on 4th of April not on 1st April. It is very important that magazine should publish correct information because, many people visit my town during spring festival. Having incorrect information can ruin their visit, and can effect the local business too.
I would like to suggest that before publishing the artical reread it, if there is any mistake, or can ask some locals for the correct information about there town.
I hope that you will correct your mistake soon.
Yours faithful,
Sawera.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. The writer successfully corrects the misinformation about the town by stating that it is famous for mangos rather than melons and that the spring festival is on the 4th of April. Furthermore, the writer explains the importance of accurate information by noting the impact on visitors and local businesses, and suggests that the magazine should reread articles and consult locals before publishing. Although the development is somewhat straightforward, all parts of the task are clearly addressed and appropriately extended, fully meeting the requirements for a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter follows a coherent overall arrangement with a standard greeting and sign-off. Ideas are logically sequenced, moving from the statement of purpose to specific corrections, explanations, and finally suggestions. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different points, such as grouping the corrections and explanations together and placing the suggestion in its own paragraph. However, cohesive devices are somewhat basic or occasionally mechanical (e.g., 'Firstly', 'Second'), and referencing is occasionally basic. Nevertheless, the progression of ideas is easy to follow, supporting a solid Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday points regarding travel magazines and town descriptions. There are several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'artical' instead of article, 'contain' instead of contains, 'mellons' instead of melons, 'favestival' instead of festival, and 'there town' instead of their town. Additionally, the sign-off contains an error ('Yours faithful'). Despite these inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without severely impeding communication, placing the performance firmly at Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'It is very important that magazine should publish correct information because, many people visit my town during spring festival.' There are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text, including missing articles ('that magazine', 'international magazine'), unnecessary commas ('because, many people'), and spelling issues affecting word forms. While these errors are noticeable and require some effort from the reader, they do not completely obscure the message, demonstrating the characteristics of a Band 5.5 performance.
