Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response fails to address the prompt correctly, as it is written as a request to an employer to reduce working hours rather than a letter to the editor of a travel magazine correcting incorrect information. Because the content is entirely off-topic for the assigned task, the response only touches upon the general format of a letter, resulting in a limited and irrelevant engagement with the core requirements. To improve, the writer must carefully read the prompt instructions and ensure all bullet points—correcting misinformation, explaining the importance of accuracy, and suggesting corrective action—are fully addressed in future practice.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organization with distinct paragraph blocks, but the overall progression is disjointed and lacks logical flow due to the confusion in content. Cohesive devices are minimal, mechanical, or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'I believe' to start sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but sentences do not always build upon one another coherently. To move up, the writer needs to use a wider range of logical connectors and ensure that ideas are sequenced smoothly to guide the reader through the argument effectively.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is very basic and limited, with noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'reasn' for reason, 'admissin' for admission, 'benifit' for beneficial, and 'worke' for work. The range is barely adequate for simple communication and relies heavily on repetitive, elementary terms. To achieve a higher band, the student must expand their lexical repertoire, accurately spell common words, and use appropriate collocations and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside poorly constructed complex attempts. Frequent errors are present across basic grammar, including verb tenses, prepositions, and articles, such as 'study in part time' and 'this studies is also more effective'. These frequent mistakes can cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, the student needs to work on sentence variety, subject-verb agreement, and reducing basic structural errors.
