Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am writing to infrom that your recent magazine's artical named as "Uncontrolled Enviromnment" has some misinformation regarding my home town. The article says that most cities are polluted because of the waste and mess on the local areas and the name of my hometown Indore is also mentioned in that article. I would like to correct that this is a wrong information because my city rewarded as one of the cleanest city of India for about 5 times now.
Firstly, I would like to ask you to correct that wrong information because your magazine is published on global level and it is ineffective for people to getter incorrect information about our country. On the top of that i do not want that any misinterpretation will spread regarding my home town.
Furthermore, I would suggest some measures that your magazine has published on online platforms and soon it will be going on print publication, before that you can make the changes in the wrong information.
I would appretiate your efforts and would like to hear a positive response fron you soon .
yours failthfyllu

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt, satisfying the requirements for a letter to the editor. You clearly address the three bullet points: you correct the misinformation about your hometown of Indore, explain why accuracy is important for a global publication, and suggest that changes be made before the print edition is released. The purpose of the letter is evident throughout. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed rather than fully extended; for instance, the explanation of why correct information matters could benefit from a bit more expansion regarding the impact on tourism or the city's reputation. To reach a higher level, you would need to provide fully developed, well-supported ideas that explore the implications of the error in greater depth.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from the initial correction to the explanation and finally the suggestion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate each main point, and standard letter formatting is followed with a proper opening and sign-off. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Firstly,' and 'Furthermore,' to guide the reader through the text, although referencing and linking can occasionally feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. To move towards a higher band, you could aim for smoother, more varied transitions between sentences and paragraphs without relying as heavily on basic sequencing words.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message despite a noticeable number of spelling, word choice, and word form errors. You attempt some less common vocabulary, such as 'misinformation,' 'misinterpretation,' and 'global level,' but these are accompanied by errors like 'infrom' instead of inform, 'artical' instead of article, 'Enviromnment,' 'ineffective' used where another word might suit better, 'appretiate,' and the sign-off error 'failthfyllu'. These spelling and lexical slips are frequent enough to cause some distraction for the reader. To achieve a higher score, you need to expand your range of vocabulary while demonstrating greater accuracy in spelling and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating that you can construct multi-clause sentences such as 'The article says that most cities are polluted because of the waste and mess on the local areas and the name of my hometown Indore is also mentioned in that article.' There are, however, some recurring errors in grammar and punctuation, including preposition choices ('on global level' instead of at a global level, 'in the local areas' instead of in local areas), article use, and tense consistency, as seen in 'your magazine has published on online platforms and soon it will be going on print publication.' These errors rarely impede overall communication, placing the grammar comfortably at this level. To improve further, you should focus on increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences and refining your command of prepositions and verb tense agreements.
