Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to express disappointment towards an incorrect information that has been published in the "Mahek" international magazine last month. Capital of my provice Ontario is " Toronto", However, it was published "Ottawa" in the magazine.
It is very crucial to understand the consequences behind the wrong data and how it will affect. People who are unaware of the province, visitors and influencers will have a negative information about it, which they will share and carry for a life. It has been common to misunderstand that City of Ottawa as a capital, due to the parliament is located in the city. That is why, it is the capital of Canada. On the other hand, Toronto is the biggest city with the highest populated city across Canada including headquaters of big brands and companies, multi-cultural population, ancient history and busy lifestyle metropolitan city made it a capital of Ontario province.
I would like to request it if you could recall all the sold magazines and correct the misleading data. Additionally, I would like to suggest to verify the articles twice, and proofread before they go in printing department.
I will appreciate an immediate action on this matter.
Yours sincerely,
NI

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, establishing a clear purpose and position from the beginning. You cover the three bullet points adequately by correcting the capital of Ontario from Ottawa to Toronto, explaining the negative consequences of misinformation for visitors, and suggesting that the magazine recall issues and proofread future articles. Your position is consistent throughout the letter, and the ideas presented are generally relevant. However, to move closer to a higher band, some of your ideas could be extended and supported with greater depth rather than generalized quickly. For instance, explaining the specific impact on tourism could have been developed further. Overall, the communication of your message is clear and meets the core requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement, and you have made a successful start toward the characteristics of a higher band by organizing your thoughts into logical paragraphs. Each paragraph has a clear focus, moving from the introduction of the error to the explanation of consequences, and finally to the proposed solutions. However, cohesion at times feels a bit mechanical or faulty. Phrases like 'That is why' and 'On the other hand' are used, but some referencing links and transitions between sentences are slightly unclear, such as the sudden shift within the second paragraph regarding Ottawa and Toronto. Paragraphing is used appropriately for a formal letter, but achieving a higher band would require smoother, more natural transitions and a more integrated flow of ideas throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You display an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'consequences', 'multi-cultural population', and 'misleading data'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and phrasing that prevent a higher score. For example, writing 'express disappointment towards an incorrect information' contains an error with the uncountable noun 'information' and preposition usage. Similarly, phrases like 'carry for a life' instead of 'for a lifetime', and 'go in printing department' instead of 'go to the printing department', show that while you attempt varied vocabulary, your control over word formation and collocation is inconsistent. These errors do not impede overall communication, but they highlight the need for greater precision in lexical selection.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms in your writing, such as conditional and relative structures. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that place this response at the current level. Issues include article errors, such as 'Capital of my provice' missing the definite article, and punctuation slips like comma splices and incorrect capitalization in 'Capital of my provice Ontario is " Toronto", However, it was published
